Menopause and andropause are common conditions that affect people as they age. Menopause typically occurs around the age of 50 and is diagnosed after a woman has gone one year without a menstrual period. It can be prematurely caused by chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery to remove the ovaries. During natural menopause from aging, however, the ovaries lose the ability to respond to the brain’s hormonal messages so they stop producing estrogen and progesterone. When your hormone levels start fluctuating during menopause, you may experience physical symptoms of discomfort, such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood changes, weight gain, and breast tenderness.

Andropause, also known as male menopause, is caused by the gradual decrease of testosterone in men that starts in a man’s 20s but is most noticeable in their 40s. All men suffer from some sort of decline in their hormone levels, but a reduction in testosterone or other hormone levels combined with poor diet, weak physical fitness, and inefficient sleep work to exacerbate the typical symptoms of low testosterone (low T) or a hormonal imbalance resulting from andropause. Contact Dr. Caroline Conner in Fountain Valley, CA to learn more about options for treating menopause and andropause.

Menopause symptoms and treatment vary from one person to another. Treatment of menopause is individualized and based on your personal history, family history, the severity of symptoms, and the existence of any other medical issues. Some patients elect to use hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the relief of night sweats, hot flashes, and vaginal discomfort. Hormone replacement therapy is the process of inserting a pellet containing the hormones you need under your skin to deliver the dose gradually. Other treatment methods include:

  • Vaginal estrogen: Administered as a cream, tablet, or ring to relieve vaginal dryness and some urinary symptoms
  • Low-dose antidepressants: Given to minimize hot flashes
  • Oral medications: May minimize hot flashes and vaginal dryness or reduce the risk of fractures from bone loss

Low testosterone caused by andropause is equivalent to female menopause. Testosterone replacement therapy and hormone balancing supplementation can be the answer. Treatment of andropause can be a combination of low T creams, gels, or injections. We may supplement your treatment with other hormones or vitamins. It is also very important to get an adequate amount of sleep, eat a healthy diet, and exercise for optimal health. Dr. Conner will work with you to design a course of treatment that will allow you a healthier, rejuvenated, and more energetic life.

I’ve been to my fair share of BioTe physicians for HRT since 2014.  I’m so glad I cross paths with Dr. Conner because she goes above and beyond the service other physicians I’ve had.  She is extremely knowledgeable in HRT and takes in consideration the patients symptoms not just the tests.  In my HRT journey I have met more Dr’s that don’t know what they are doing than do and Dr. Conner is a breath of fresh air.  Her staff is professional and amazing.  Mercedes (her assistant) took care of all my needs and made sure to follow up with me so I know what the next step always was.  I will definitely be referring Dr. Conner’s HRT treatments to all my friends and look forward to my next office visit!

Best doctor I have EVER had!!! I have been w/Dr. Conner for all 3 of my pregnancies and her and her office have ALWAYS gone above and beyond to provide care to me and my babies. I love Dr. Conner’s office and friendly staff and NP and I ALWAYS recommend this office to everyone I know bc they are the best around! Dr. Conner has the best bed side manner. I literally can not say enough great things about Dr. Conner and her office they are awesome!! You will not be disappointed going here. My insurance changed for my 2nd pregnancy and I switched to a different medical group so I could still continue care with Dr. Conner. I will never go elsewhere I’m a Pt for life. I have also recommended my friends here also and have had other friends that have seen Dr. Conner also that recommended me there and we all love her. She is so safe and careful and ensures the best care possible to protect you and your unborn baby. I have also been to the office for regular check ups also outside of pregnancy and again they are so professional and courteous and safe.

I had the best experience with Dr. Conner. I had gestational diabetes and her and Mercedez, her nurse (and really all of her staff) took such good care of me and my son. I had an emergency C-section and dr. Conner made the experience a lot less stressful. She is super knowledgeable and I felt like she genuinely cared for me and my baby. I can’t recommend her enough!
